How Early are Personality Traits Formed?

Last week our twin grandsons were born without Caesarian section.  Brendan appeared first at six pounds, four ounces.  He had been in the "ready" position for over a month.  Then Jeffrey appeared, in the breach position.  Fortunately, through manipulation he was brought out butt first and began to breathe after thirty seconds.  He weighed five pounds, fourteen ounces.  Both boys had fair complexions like their sister and dark blue eyes.  Within a week of nursing they had gained the half-pound back, lost in the hospital.  We are all ecstatic!

Sibling Rivalry

Note: Originally published here in 2010, this is an interesting blog.

I want to make clear that I am not a child psychiatrist, counselor, pediatrician, not even a team coach.  I am simply the mother of two grown sons, now the grandmother of three granddaughters, soon-to-be the grandmother of twin grandsons.

Sustaining an Injury

On April 22nd at 6:30 p.m. I will participate in a panel discussion in Cambridge, Mass., with our son Todd and Tom Brady's (the quarterback's) dad, possibly his mom.  Our son Todd, along with his older brother, were the subjects of my book published last April entitled, MINOR LEAGUE MOM:  A MOTHER'S JOURNEY THROUGH THE RED SOX FARM TEAMS.   The subject of the discussion will be, "Parenting Elite Athletes."

An Unexpected Benefit of Kids' Team Sports

Reconnecting After 17 Years

The phone rang and my husband answered.  "Yes," he said, "I am the husband of Pam Carey.  Who is this?"

(Pause.)  "Sorry, I don't recognize the name."

ADULT HOMEWORK: Reading, 'Rithmetic, Then 'Riting

Like any other project, I cannot just dive right into it.  It's the same with studying Spanish or building a model or learning to drive.  There's homework that comes first to build up my skills and to learn how to structure the project.

A NEW BEGINNING

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  A new year, a new decade, a new lease on life after spending the holidays looking at things from the perspective of a toddler.  Always puts the important things right back in front of my nose!  What else?  A new job for some, and certainly for me...a new book to start.

Surviving the Holidays with Kids' Schedules

I remember the days when I owned my own business and was trying to get our two sons to practices and games on time with knots in my stomach.  Then the holidays hit.  How to survive without a nervous breakdown?

Focusing on the Effort

As the parent of two adult children with children of their own, I am now able to sit back and watch the progress of three little granddaughters' development.  My two sons became professional athletes for the Boston Red Sox.  I have written blogs, as well as a book (MINOR LEAGUE MOM:  A MOTHER'S JOURNEY THROUGH THE RED SOX FARM TEAMS), about that journey.  I recently read an article in The Sun Sentinel (Fla.) newspaper ("Parents:  Focus on the Effort") that I want to share.
